Women in our group come from all walks of life. We are nurses, stay at home moms, teachers, University students, engineers, psychologists, retirees, accountants and more. We range in age from our late teens to our 60’s and beyond. Depending on our lives outside choir, our group has anywhere from 12-26 members per semester, with a core group that remains.
We have ladies who have been with us for many years (and one who has been with us in 1986 when the choir was founded!) We have a unique relationship with each other and being a Savridi is a very special bond you will not find elsewhere! Click here to read what our existing members have to say about being a part of the group. If you’d like to consider joining the ensemble, you must be able to read music. At the audition an accompanist will be available for a solo selection of your choice and you will be asked to perform vocal exercises to determine your range and tone by the Artistic Director and 1-3 choir members.
Choir members are expected to participate in weekly rehearsals, twice-yearly weekend workshops, two annual concerts, a Remembrance day service and various other opportunities throughout the year. Members pay a yearly fee which supports the work of the group and must perform volunteer activites throughout the year to support the choir.
We rehearse Thursday evenings 7:00-9:30pm at a church in Crescent Heights (NE). Click here to contact us for more info.
If you want to be a member of the group but do not wish to sing, you may wish to be a non-singing member. You must be over 18 years of age, reside in Alberta and agree to support the objective of the Savridi Singers as Calgary's premier women's choir. There is a yearly membership fee as determined by our Board of Directors. Being a member in good standing qualifies you to attend and vote at our Annual General Meeting.
